I was in my final year of studies when I was diagnosed with depression. My case wasn’t severe, but it was debilitating enough. As my final exams drew near, pressure built up and I could no longer function.

I struggled between different treatment options. As I had not taken antidepressants before, it could take a while to find a regimen that fits. TMS seemed to be the superior option to me, but its substantial cost made me hesitate at first. I was very fortunate to be well supported by family and friends, who generously offered to subsidize my treatment. I underwent a course of just over 20 sessions of TMS in the end.

By the first week of receiving TMS, I had already felt a difference in my mood and daily functioning. I wasn’t as preoccupied by death and could concentrate better in studying. I took my exams shortly after my sessions were completed, and I honestly would not have passed if I were untreated. I wholeheartedly wish that TMS could be more widely accessible, particularly to those who are underprivileged and could not afford TMS treatment otherwise.
